Two Scottish HLF instructions – Cultybraggan PoW Camp Perthshire and The Briggait Glasgow

Posted on July 28, 2015

AspinallVerdi has been instructed by the Heritage Lottery Fund to appraisal two unusual projects in Scotland.

Cultybraggan is a 90 acre World War II PoW Camp including various well preserved Nissen huts, guard rooms and even a cold war nuclear bunker.  The site was acquired by Comrie Development Trust and is being developed for commercial, cultural, social and residential uses. AspinallVerdi is appraising the renovation of 11 Listed Nissen huts to form self-catering holiday accommodation. The Deputy Führer to Adolf Hitler, Rudolf Hess, is rumoured to have been at the Camp – see http://comriedevelopmenttrust.org.uk/community-shares-opportunity-at-cultybraggan-camp-press-release

The Briggait is a Grade `A` listed building on the north bank of the Clyde immediately adjacent to The Clutha bar.  The Briggait, formerly the city of Glasgow’s fish market, comprises a series of large market halls, dating from 1873, 1889 and 1904 respectively.  It has been part converted by Wasps Artists’ Studios (Workshop and Artists Studio Provision Scotland) for the production and display of visual arts including 45 studios for visual artists, 24 offices for cultural organisations and a magnificent public Courtyard. The current project is to complete the refurbishment of the 1889 and 1904 market halls to provide dance and circus event space – see http://www.waspsstudios.org.uk/studios-spaces/briggait-merchant-city
